Our
Story
In
2005 a small group of parents from the Oxford Hills community got
together to
create an affordable, secular, alternative middle school experience for
their children. In
the Fall of 2006, the Middle School at Boxberry was born.
In the Spring of 2008, the school was renamed Ganderia Middle School,
after the name for the tectonic terrane that became this part of Maine
over 400 million years ago. Though
our name has changed we are still located in and allied with the
Boxberry School.
Our
Mission Statement
The
mission of
the Ganderia Middle School is to create a respectful,
nurturing and active learning environment that inspires young citizens
to develop a lifetime love of learning, demonstrate responsibility to
the environment and their community, and respect for themselves and
others.

The CAirn Logo
The symbol of the cairn can represent a guidepost, a memorial, or a work of art. As a guidepost a cairn returns us and keeps us on the right trail. As a memorial a cairn can remind us of something important we don't want to forget. As a work of art a cairn displays the uniqueness of the individual and how, together, the individual pieces form a whole, in perfect balance.
At Ganderia Middle School, the cairn symbolizes a guidepost, returning us to the path where learning is fun and curiosity is alive. The cairn reminds us that where we are is connected to who we are. And the cairn shows us that we, as unique individuals, can work together to face our challenges, and we can balance our lives, our responsibilities to ourselves and our family and friends, to the environment and to our community.
